I remember a place to Rerference hap'ning blood transfusions during the Civil War USian (why they call it?) War.

"The Incas in South America, apparently used with great success transfusions, but almost all have the same blood type (O +), so the incompatibility reactions were rare."

Charles Drew was a surgeon and professor at Howard University School of Medicine in Washington, DC The university was founded in 1867 and named after its founder, General Otis Howard. Howard fought on the side of the Union victory in the Civil War (1861 - 1865) and was very interested in the welfare of black people, was freed from slavery during the war. He helped build hospitals and schools has begun, many people with black skin color. Howard University in Washington was open to all students, but it was founded with a special obligation to provide education for blacks.

During World War II, the Red Cross building Drew Blood Centers. Said, however, the army whereDo not allow ULD, the black population in the blood is used in the soldiers. After protests from the blood of the black population has been collected, but are separated from the blood of whites.

On 1 April 1950 Drew was seriously injured in a car crash in Burlington, North Carolina. In desperate need of blood transfusions was admitted to the nearest hospital. The hospital is using its discoveries, but he refused because he was black. He died on the way to a hospital for blacks. "

I wonder how many great minds have gone through ignorance.
