What is a good US Ski resort for 1st time family Christmas vacation - easily reachable (1 flight) from Texas? - christmas ski vacation

I take my family of five on a skiing holiday of 24 December as Christmas and stay for 5 days. Our criteria are:
- Preferred style of skiing facilities (spa, shops, etc.) for a family member who does not ski much (if any)
- Do you want a place to celebrate Christmas (Chistmas meal, etc.)
- Must have light trails, facilities for the whole family to meet somewhere to ski lessons
- Ideally, we can somewhere directions from Austin, TX or short-haul flights will receive (his flight to Colorado, for example)

Some friends have suggested the behavior of Ruidoso, NM, but I want to go much further, and most of them apartment-style homes.
